Committal Postponed for Man Charged in Guyanese Student's Death

A February committal hearing has been scheduled for the 24-year-old man accused in the May death of a visiting Guyanese law student.

Victor Ince of Lightfoot West returned to court this week where Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel set February 11, 2026, as the new date for his committal proceedings.

Authorities have charged Ince with two offences: forcibly seizing and confining 19-year-old Joyleen Abraham, and unlawfully causing her death.

The incident occurred on May 7, 2025, at Judges Estate. Abraham, a University of Guyana law student who had travelled to Antigua to visit a personal friend, was discovered unresponsive along a by-road linking New Winthorpes Village to the Jabberwock main road.

Police reports indicate Abraham allegedly jumped from a moving vehicle being operated by Ince. Emergency responders arrived at the scene where a doctor declared her dead.

Investigators seized the vehicle for forensic analysis as part of their probe into the circumstances surrounding Abraham’s death. Ince was subsequently taken into custody and questioned about the incident.

The case now moves forward with the rescheduled committal hearing next February.
