Antigua & Barbuda win opening game in U23 ECVA Tournament

Antigua and Barbuda’s Under-23 men’s team were victorious in their opening encounter of the U-23 ECVA Championships.

Playing here at the YMCA Volleyball Indoor facility, the home team thrashed Anguilla in straight sets, (25-14, 25-10, 25-17).

Jedidiah Christian led the home team with seven points while Amani Richardson scored five points in a losing effort.

In the other games played on Wednesday night, defending champions St. Vincent and the Grenadines were handed their first loss of the competition, falling to St. Lucia in straight sets in the final match-up of a triple header evening.

The (25-17, 26-24, 25-12) victory saw Daniel Mayers-James lead the St. Lucians with 12 points.

Damari Frederick had a game high 16 points.


Meanwhile in the other matchup of the night, Dominica defeated Grenada 3-1 in sets (28-26, 25-16, 23-25, 25-18).

Dominica’s Larian Tulloch scored 15 points while Grenada’s Jamal Collin made 11.

Games continue today with St. Lucia facing Anguilla in the lone morning match. Meanwhile in the night cap starting at 4pm, St. Vincent and the Grenadines will play Grenada.

At 6pm, Dominica and Anguilla do battle, while in the feature game at 8pm, Antigua and Barbuda will face St. Lucia.
