Minister of Works Maria Browne was lauded by Sir Rodney Williams for her integrity and leadership

Roadworks across Antigua are expected to accelerate following Government’s securing of a $100 million financing package dedicated to islandwide repairs.

The 2026 Speech from the Throne reported that road users are now contributing to a special fund through vehicle-related payments, ensuring a sustainable long-term financing model.

Upcoming projects include:
• Major resurfacing of highways and village roads
• Re-piping beneath roadways before resurfacing
• Continued runway repairs at V.C. Bird International Airport
• Installation of an underwater internet cable in 2026

The Minister of Works was commended for “shining integrity” and motivating work crews across the island.

  2. Road improvements are always welcome, especially if they reduce accidents and improve commuting. Fingers crossed that the integrity praised here is reflected in the final outcome.
