Despite being illegal in Antigua & Barbuda, prostitution continues to operate openly through street solicitation and discreet brothel-style establishments—creating a growing disconnect between the law and everyday reality.
This tension has sparked a national debate over whether the country should continue enforcing an outdated statute, reform it to reflect modern realities, or remove it from the books entirely.

Prostitution is illegal in Antigua and Barbuda…if not in practice, at least in law

Please move them from infront of the church then the rest is immigration and politics.
A whole bunch of maked woman lined the streets in St johns. Police patrol and kmow is prostitutes yet they drive past them like its not illegal in Antigua
The Hispanic women are the public culprits but women of dark colour doing it privately.
One reason i dont do prostitution is because they dont pay taxes but they get to use all of the nation services for free.
u can’t see good and not seeing them is not Spanish they just robbing off
Judge not that ye be judged
Everywhere around the world the oldest profession continues to thrive. And honestly there’s no need to remove it from the books bevause remove it or not women doing their thing
Whether people like it or not, prostitution is a survival issue for many women. If government isn’t going to help them, at least create a system that keeps them safe

Some men sleep with women and leave money on their tables when they are leaving. Is that a form of prostitution? Asking for my cousin

It’s only illegal because it’s hard to tax. Everyone knows the Spanish lady on the corner just by PWD shouting “fresh pussy Pappi, cheap cheap.”, is a prostitute; however, authorities do nothing about it because they don’t really care.
Legal minds need to come together because honestly speaking the laws make no sense since prostitution is legal here technically speaking?
I myself never understand how women doing that.. one man after the other for money. And some of the men going after this service have their wives at home.
Everyone knows it’s happening openly, yet the law still says it’s illegal. That contradiction is exactly why nothing gets solved
Completely removing the laws without any framework could create chaos. A balanced approach that includes regulation, support, and protection for vulnerable individuals seems most practical.
We can’t keep pretending. Either enforce the law properly or modernize it. Right now it’s just hypocrisy
I think it should remain illegal. But, the penalty should not be jail time. Instead, women caught should be mandated to spend some time (e.g. a few months) in a residential facility where they receive counseling about their life choices, career options, etc., linked up with small business training opportunities etc. Better to even become a dancer or something where they don’t get touched rather than exposing themselves to all sorts of risks as a prostitute. It’s also bad for everyone else to have such persons roaming the streets of the town at night. Streets in town should be family-friendly even at night. St. John’s is not a “big city” but a charming small island town. We don’t need all that illicit activity in such a little island!
