A 16-year-old boy is fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre following a serious traffic accident in Golden Grove on Friday night.

According to reports, the teenager was one of four occupants in a vehicle that lost control and slammed into a tree, leaving the car badly mangled and its young passengers injured. The boy, who remains in critical condition, had reportedly taken his mother’s vehicle without her knowledge.

Another 16-year-old boy was also hurt in the crash, along with two teenage girls who were inside the vehicle at the time. The girls reportedly fled the scene immediately after the impact.

The incident has sparked national concern, prompting Prime Minister Gaston Browne to caution young people about the deadly consequences of reckless driving.

Emphasizing that speed may feel exhilarating but can lead to tragedy in seconds, Browne urged teenagers to act responsibly and remember that “speed thrills, but speed kills.”

Police investigations into the incident are ongoing.
