Consumer Affairs Division reminds vendors that receipts for sale transactions valued at $10.00 or more is the law
As the Christmas shopping season intensifies, the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division is reminding all suppliers and vendors of their legal obligation to issue receipts for sale transactions valued at $10.00 or more.
The reminder comes under Section 61 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2025, which mandates that receipts be provided for qualifying purchases. According to the Division, each receipt must clearly state the supplier’s name and address, the date of the transaction, a description and quantity of the goods purchased, and the total amount paid.
The Division cautioned that failure to comply with the requirements of the Act constitutes an offence. Suppliers or vendors found guilty may, upon conviction, face a fine not exceeding $2,000, imprisonment for a term of up to 12 months, or both.
Officials say the measure is intended to protect consumers, promote transparency in commercial transactions, and ensure fair trading practices during the busy holiday period.
The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division also extended warm wishes to all suppliers and vendors, encouraging them to enjoy a joyful and safe festive season while adhering to the provisions of the law.

I coulda spend 50 cents I want my receipt
Makes sense
They should make it mandatory that you show an id for certain purchases too. I’m very worried about someone else getting my card .
