Dr. Theodore Thomas
A surgeon from Dominica; Theodore Thomas of Sineku in the Kalinago Territory has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting his 29 year old girlfriend in the stomach.
The young medical practitioner was denied bail after appearing before the Roseau Magistrate’s Court on January 5, 2026, on charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm.
According to Nature Isle News, the charges stem from an alleged incident on January 2, 2026, at Steber Street, Pottersville, where Dr. Thomas is accused of attempting to murder Athena Dodds of Melville Hall, Marigot, and discharging a Glock 19 9mm pistol within 50 feet of a public road.
The two has been dating for just four months according to reports.
Dodds is currently hospitalized and have since undergone two surgeries. She remains in a critical condition.
Dr. Thomas pleaded not guilty to the firearm charge. He was not required to enter a plea on the attempted murder charge, which is indictable and expected to be tried in the High Court of Justice.
His attorneys applied for bail under the Bail Act, 2020, citing his professional responsibilities, family ties, firearm licence, and lack of flight risk. Evidence was also given regarding the medical condition of the virtual complainant, who remains hospitalised and was undergoing a second surgical procedure.
The prosecution objected, arguing that bail was not available as of right, citing the seriousness of the offence, public interest concerns, and an increase in firearm-related crime.
After hearing submissions, Kimala Alfred, Magistrate, ruled that bail should be denied, citing the seriousness of the charges and rising firearm offences. Dr. Thomas was advised that he may seek bail in the High Court.
The matter was adjourned to March 31, 2026.

SMH. How mr end up doing that
This story is deeply disturbing, and it hits even harder because people know both of them, not just as names in a headline, but as real human beings with families, friends, and futures. What is alleged here is not just a crime; it is a reminder of how violence against women continues to unfold behind closed doors, even in relationships that outsiders might describe as “new,” “promising,” or “unlikely to turn violent.” It happens in Dominica Antigua and a lot of other places.
Athena is not a statistic. She is someone’s daughter, someone’s friend, someone who trusted a partner and is now fighting for her life after multiple surgeries. The fact that this happened just four months into a relationship should alarm everyone .Get to know the men you love young ladies. Not because he is a doctor. Behind these uniforms are real sick pupils. Which brings me to my next point, It is also deeply troubling when alleged violence comes from someone in a position of trust and respect. Being educated, professional, licensed, or well-connected does not place anyone above accountability. If anything, it reminds us that abuse does not look one way, it crosses class, profession, and background. Too often, society hesitates when the accused “doesn’t fit the profile,” while the woman’s suffering is quietly sidelined.
The court’s decision to deny bail reflects the gravity of the situation and the broader reality we are facing across the region: gun violence and domestic violence are intersecting in deadly ways. Women are paying the price. Communities are traumatized. Families are left shattered.
What matters now is Athena’s survival, her healing, and her protection, not excuses, not reputation management, not sympathy for status or profession. Violence against women must be confronted honestly and without bias. Silence, minimization, and “wait and see” attitudes have cost too many women their lives.
This case should force all of us to ask hard questions about how we recognize warning signs, how we support women who may feel trapped or afraid to speak, and how seriously we treat gender-based violence before it reaches this point.
No matter how this case ultimately unfolds in court, one thing is already clear: violence against women is a crisis, and stories like this are not isolated incidents — they are warnings we keep ignoring at our peril.
This damn comment longer than the damn story. chups. This is really a sad situation and unless it was in self defense then he’s wrong
But he not engaged to someone else nuh. How he dating for 4 months dere?
We are living in the end of times. Expect all this madness to happen…It’s the world we live in. There will be more to come.
He is such a good Dr. One of the best in Dominica. The news is quite disturbing. This news I still cannot digest. I pray for all being affected in this situation.
A father of 7? Huh. So, wait a minute, Dr. you didn’t think of any of your children before allegedly pulling that trigger? She is someone’s child. No one would like this for their child or children, not even you.
Am o reading the right story? Or I missed the father of 7 part? In a little confused right now
This is a clear definition of men can give and cannot take! I said what I said!
Gassa but allu not seeing Mr is a mad man? And ofc people will talk because he’s a “surgeon”. Take Mr medical license and send him and sit down behind bars people. Monsters like them not suppose to be operating on people. Dem manz will go crazy when gopwel take them!!
Well, I guess the good doctor will be plying his trade behind bars on clientele of his status for the foreseeable future and deservedly so barring self defense.
Must be the Kalinago in him. I hope he is jailed
