U.S. media outlets are reporting that a convicted murderer, who had been living under an alias and illegally residing in the United States, has been apprehended in Houston, Texas.

According to reports, the man was originally sentenced to 45 years in prison but was mistakenly released after being wrongly identified as a U.S. citizen. Authorities later determined that he is in fact a national of the neighbouring island of Dominica.

The U.S. Border Patrol’s Laredo Sector confirmed that the individual is now back in custody and is facing deportation proceedings.

The agency stated that justice has been served and that the arrest has helped make communities safer.
