A 25-year-old man will learn his fate on Friday after admitting to illegal firearm possession while his two co-accused have had their charges dropped by prosecutors.

Aadham O’Garro stood before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel on Wednesday and entered guilty pleas to charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition, bringing an unexpected turn to a case that had implicated three men just days earlier.

The Director of Public Prosecutions made the decision to withdraw all charges against George Chiddick, 33, and Ajante Thomas, 21, leaving O’Garro as the sole defendant in the matter. Chief Magistrate Emanuel has scheduled sentencing for Friday.

The case originated from a weekend police operation that targeted the Green Bay area. On Saturday evening, January 24, a coordinated team of officers from multiple departments descended on a residence where they uncovered a Glock 17 nine-millimeter pistol and fifteen matching rounds of ammunition.

The discovery led to the immediate arrest of all three men who were present at the location. They were formally charged and brought before the court on Tuesday, where they were initially remanded to His Majesty’s Prison until Wednesday.

  6. This case raises two important issues at once: accountability and fairness. Yes, the court system separate guilt from association, but it’s also a reminder that illegal firearms are still circulating among young men. Prevention, education, and enforcement all need to work together if we’re serious about reducing gun violence.

  7. Sentencing in cases like this should send a clear message. Illegal firearms have no place in Antigua and Barbuda, and the penalties must reflect the risk these weapons pose to innocent people.
