A 25-year-old Grays Farm man has been sentenced to prison after admitting to firearm-related offences in the St. John’s Magistrate’s Court.

Aadham O’Garro appeared before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel on Friday, where he pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. He was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for the firearm offence and one year for the ammunition offence, with the sentences to be served concurrently.

The charges arose from a joint police operation carried out in the Green Bay area on Saturday, January 24. During the operation, officers recovered a Glock 17 nine-millimetre pistol along with fifteen rounds of 9mm ammunition.

O’Garro was among three individuals taken into custody during the operation. Police have not disclosed whether charges have been laid against the other suspects as investigations continue.

Authorities say the conviction underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement to clamp down on the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in Antigua and Barbuda.
