
The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has agreed to centralize and strengthen oversight of work permit approvals.
Maurice Merchant told reporters that, going forward, the responsible Minister will be assisted directly by Cabinet in reviewing work permit applications to ensure that jobs created through economic growth prioritize qualified nationals.

The decision follows public concern about foreign labour participation in expanding sectors.
Merchant said the move forms part of a broader strategy to ensure that the country’s economic gains translate into meaningful employment opportunities for Antiguans and Barbudans.
