Two Fatal Traffic Cases Dismissed Within a Week
The Director of Public Prosecutions has dismissed two separate causing death by dangerous driving cases within the span of a week.
The latest dismissal came Friday in the High Court, where charges against Keithanya Elvin were dropped. Elvin had been accused of causing the death of 16-year-old cyclist Azorae Pennant in a 2022 incident.
The collision occurred on the evening of January 26, 2022, along Tyrell’s main road. Pennant was cycling northbound shortly before 6:30 pm when Elvin, driving a Honda CRV in the opposite direction, attempted a right turn.
The teenager reportedly swerved to avoid the vehicle but collided with it and lost control. He was thrown from his bicycle into the path of an oncoming pickup truck and died from his injuries approximately one hour after being transported to hospital.
The abandonment follows a similar development just days earlier, when prosecutors withdrew charges against a Bendals man in connection with a fatal motorcycle accident.
That accused had been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a November 14, 2022 crash that killed 23-year-old Annik Lawrence.
No explanation was provided for the dismissals in open court.

2 lives lost without no justice .
Black lives matter.
Sometimes it a accident unfortunately someone died intentionally is different we all had some type of accident but it wasn’t intentionally.
My heart breaks all over again for those families and this is why so many citizens feel frustrated. Dangerous driving claims lives every year, and when cases are dismissed it feels like accountability is slipping away and there is no justice to ever appear. Losing a child or loved one in a tragic accident is very devastating enough and to see charges dropped against the accused must be incredibly painful. Then the lingering silence will create doubt and erode trust in the justice system.
These were young people with their whole lives ahead of them. The emotional toll on their families must be unimaginable. Justice delayed, dismissed, or unclear only deepens that pain.
Tragic Circumstances. No one really wins here. Families are left broken
Painful reminder of how fragile life is and how complicated justice can be
Two young people dead and is just so? No explanation? That hard to swallow. The families deserve answers.
Sigh.. No words
