Secret camera catches illegal dumping activities in Parham

Police are searching for a truck driver who was reportedly caught on a hidden camera illegally dumping garbage in Parham, in what residents say is a long-standing and frustrating problem.

According to community members, indiscriminate dumping in the area has been occurring for months, prompting them to install a secret surveillance camera in hopes of identifying the culprit.

Footage obtained by Antigua.news allegedly shows a truck heavily loaded with garbage entering the area. Moments later, the vehicle is seen leaving empty. Shortly after its departure, piles of refuse can be seen scattered across the ground where the truck had stopped.

Residents say they are fed up.

“We are tired of cleaning up after people who have no respect for the community,” one resident told Antigua.news. “This is not a landfill.”

The Member of Parliament for St. Peter, Rawdon Turner, has strongly condemned the act and is calling for swift action.

“This kind of reckless and irresponsible behaviour will not be tolerated in St. Peter,” Turner said. “Our communities are not dumping grounds. The individuals responsible must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. We owe it to our residents, our children, and our country to protect our environment.”

He added that illegal dumping undermines national efforts to improve the country’s image and environmental standards.

“All of us have a role to play. We cannot be talking about development and pride while a few individuals are destroying the very communities we are trying to uplift,” Turner stated.

The incident comes at a particularly sensitive time, as Antigua and Barbuda has officially declared 2026 the Year of Beautification — an initiative aimed at improving the island’s aesthetics, cleanliness, and environmental responsibility.

Police investigations are ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the truck or driver involved to come forward.

  1. This is absolutely disgraceful. People work hard to keep their communities clean, and one selfish individual thinks it’s okay to turn Parham into a dump site? Charge him and make an example out of him. Enough is enough.

  2. Good job using the cameras. Quick question: isn’t the trucks registration tag visible? If not carry on but if it is use it to trace the owner.

  3. I’m honestly heartbroken reading this. We talk about pride, development, tourism, and the Year of Beautification, yet some of our own people are sabotaging the very country we claim to love. It’s not just garbage being dumped, it’s a lack of civic pride.

  5. So we declare 2026 Year of Beautification and this is what’s happening? The irony is painful.
