The police are currently looking into the circumstances surrounding the passing of a 73-year-old visitor to the island.

Incident Details

At approximately 11:17 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, officers from the Dockyard Police Station responded to a report of a suspected drowning in the English Harbour area.

Initial investigations indicated that Christopher Graham Jones from England was snorkeling near Galleon Beach when he began to encounter difficulties while swimming. A nearby vessel’s captain noticed individuals in the water signaling for help and promptly went to assist.

The victim was brought aboard the vessel, where Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was immediately performed. He was then taken ashore, and the Antigua and Barbuda Search and Rescue (ABSAR) team continued life-saving efforts.

Mr. Jones was subsequently transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where a medical practitioner pronounced him dead at approximately 12:39 p.m.

Background Information

The victim and his wife had arrived in Antigua earlier that day via a cruise ship from Barbados.

A post-mortem examination is anticipated in this case, and investigations are ongoing.

The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda extends heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased during this challenging time.

The police are urging both residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution while at the beach and to adhere to proper safety measures at all times.
