Jamaican National Remanded Following EC$360K Airport Drug Bust

A law enforcement operation at V.C. Bird International Airport on Sunday resulted in the arrest of a Jamaican national after officers uncovered a significant cannabis haul valued at approximately EC$360,000.

Benjamin Isaiah Carrington, 38, now faces five drug-related charges after a joint sweep by the Narcotics Department, K-9 Unit, and Customs Enforcement Unit led investigators to 19 sealed packages of cannabis distributed across two suitcases in his possession — a combined weight of 60 pounds.

Carrington appeared unrepresented before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel, where prosecutors successfully argued he posed a flight risk. Authorities pointed to the gravity of the charges and his absence of ties to Antigua and Barbuda as grounds for remand.

The charges against him include drug trafficking, importation of cannabis, possession with intent to transfer, being concerned with the supply of cannabis, and simple possession.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on May 6th, 2026.
