(L-R) Priyanjana Das; Karim Edwards; Kenneth Mathew
A man charged with causing the death of a medical student on Friars Hill Road will have a trial date fixed following a case management hearing scheduled for April 24.
Karim Edwards appeared before Justice Rajiv Persaud in the High Court on Friday, where the date was set.
Edwards, who entered a not guilty plea last month, is charged with causing death by reckless driving and reckless driving in connection with the October 23, 2022 collision that claimed the life of Kenneth Mathew and left Priyanjana Das with injuries that changed her life forever.
Mathew, who sustained severe brain trauma in the crash, died just over a week later.
Das survived but lost her right arm, suffered fractures to her left arm, and sustained pelvic injuries.
The accused is represented by Attorney Wendel Alexander.

And he entered a not guilty plea? The heart of man kind in our small little country eh.
Every time I pass Friars Hill Road I does think about this. People drive too reckless on that stretch.
Hope the court really examines everything properly. No shortcuts. This too serious.
Friars Hill Road need more enforcement. Too much speeding happening there daily.
hmmmmm We all eagerly awaiting the outcome
l am just wondering what has caused such a long delay in bringing this before the court.
everything about Antigua is a delay
Not guilty plea is his right, but the evidence better speak clearly. Too many of these cases end up with slap on the wrist
My heart still breaks for that young lady. Losing an arm is not something you ‘recover’ from. That is lifelong trauma
you will face your time. Marijuana smoking rum drinking dont want to face repsobsilities man!
People need to understand reckless driving is not an ‘accident’. When you drive careless, this is the result. A young life gone and another permanently changed
This is why we keep saying we need proper road policing and speed control. Everybody know how people drive on Friars Hill
