An Old Road man accused of cultivating nearly 400 cannabis plants worth over $230,000 has been granted bail — but under strict conditions.
Shawn Richards, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel on Tuesday represented by attorney Damien Benjamin, was released on bail of $250,000, with a $10,000 cash component and two Antiguan sureties required.
The conditions attached to his release are extensive. Richards must report daily to Johnson’s Point Police Station between 6am and 6pm, continue to reside in Old Road for the duration of the matter, and is barred from communicating with or interfering with potential witnesses. A travel ban has also been imposed.
Richards faces three charges — cultivating, possessing, and being concerned with supplying 377 cannabis plants with a combined street value of $232,000. The charges stem from an incident on March 21st in the Crab Hill area.
The case has been adjourned to May 27th for committal.
