The Gaston Browne-led administration has been handed a commanding new mandate to govern, as preliminary results from Thursday’s General Elections point to a sweeping victory for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP).
With the party needing just nine seats to retain power, early counts indicate Labour has comfortably surpassed that threshold, with projections suggesting a near-clean sweep of 15 out of the nation’s 17 constituencies.
The exception appears to be Barbuda and All Saints East and St Lukes according to pollsters.
While counting is still ongoing in some areas, the outcome is no longer in doubt — the ABLP has decisively secured another term in office, reinforcing its political dominance and tightening its grip on the national landscape.
The result caps off an intense and high-energy campaign season that saw both major parties — the ABLP and the United Progressive Party (UPP) — battling fiercely for the support of voters. From whistle-stop tours and late-night rallies to motorcades and house-to-house canvassing, the political atmosphere remained charged right up to the close of polls.
In the end, voters delivered a clear and emphatic verdict.
Central to Labour’s success was its “Renaissance” campaign — a forward-focused platform built around economic growth, infrastructure expansion, public sector wage increases, and continued investment in education, housing, and healthcare.
Browne consistently framed the election as a choice between stability and uncertainty, a message that appeared to resonate strongly across constituencies.
The Prime Minister’s relentless campaign presence also played a pivotal role. Crisscrossing the island, Browne energized supporters and maintained visibility in key battlegrounds, supported by a disciplined and unified slate of candidates who executed a well-coordinated ground campaign.
Political observers point to Labour’s superior organization and messaging as decisive factors in the outcome. Even in traditionally competitive seats, the party managed to either hold firm or flip constituencies, underscoring the effectiveness of its campaign machinery.
By contrast, the UPP mounted a determined challenge but faced a series of hurdles throughout the campaign, including internal adjustments and the difficulty of defending key constituencies while trying to expand its reach. Despite visible efforts on the ground, the opposition struggled to match the consistency and momentum generated by Labour in the final stretch.
As results began to crystallize Thursday night, scenes of celebration erupted across several constituencies, with jubilant supporters taking to the streets in a show of victory and relief. Red — the party’s signature color — once again dominated the political map.
For Browne, the victory represents more than just another term — it signals a consolidation of political strength and a renewed endorsement of his administration’s policies and leadership.
With a strengthened mandate and an overwhelming parliamentary majority, the ABLP now faces the task of delivering on its promises while navigating the expectations that come with such a decisive win.
All eyes will now turn to the composition of the new Cabinet and the government’s first moves in what is set to be another defining chapter in Antigua and Barbuda’s political journey.

Red is bread!!!!
