29-year-old Okeen Lightfoot of Swetes Village
The family of the driver involved in Tuesday’s fatal traffic accident on All Saints Road has issued a public statement expressing heartbreak and sympathy following the tragic incident that claimed the life of 29-year-old Okeen Lightfoot of Swetes Village.
In the statement released Tuesday evening, the family said they were “heartbroken over the devastating events” that unfolded on May 12 and extended condolences to Lightfoot’s relatives and loved ones.
“We extend our deepest condolences, prayers, and sympathy to the family and loved ones of Okeen Lightfoot, who lost his life,” the statement said. “We recognize that many persons are hurting, grieving, and searching for answers during this incredibly difficult time.”
The accident occurred earlier Tuesday when a motor bus reportedly travelling east along All Saints Road allegedly lost control and veered off the roadway, colliding with a National Solid Waste Management Authority worker. Lightfoot was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash remain ongoing.
The driver’s family said their son and relatives have been left deeply shaken by the tragedy and noted that they are cooperating fully with authorities.
“Our son and our entire family are deeply shaken and devastated by what has happened,” the statement read. “Out of respect for the ongoing investigation, we are limited in what we can say publicly at this time, but we want the community to know that we are fully cooperating with authorities.”
The family also offered prayers for first responders and others emotionally impacted by the incident.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with everyone affected by this tragedy, for the family who lost their loved one, for all first responders involved, and for all those carrying emotional pain in the aftermath of this incident,” the statement concluded.

Mr heart goes out to both families
Hope the family is ready to face the charges that stem from this! A very sad story and this is why drivers should take their time
Yeah yeah yeah, drivers should take their time. But one the most overlooked part of this story is the negligence of the NSWMA for their workers! Why aren’t there any signs when these men are working on the roads out there? Yes, if the driver was taking his time on the road then this wouldn’t be the case. But with markings they have no choice but to take their times on the road cause roadworks are going in! In other relations I hope this young man never drives again
Exactly…….no safety for the works…… Safety cones etc…. there’s a lot more to be said , they say they care about the workers and we are first preference, most important they say but it feels more like after last….I mean pay better so a worker could at least purchase they’re own safety equipment and safety gear….but no we can’t read they say what do need more money for…….it really frustrate me when ever I think about it, feels like going to work risking our lives just to receive enough to barely make to another work week……..
This really shook me to the core yesterday
May Okeen rest in peace and may justice and truth come out of the investigation
Is there a reason the driver’s identity hasn’t been released? This just keeps saying the “family of the driver”. It’s the same thing in the Observer newspaper.
If they can release the victim’s identity why not the driver? Perhaps I’m missing something.
Give me a fu&$ing break. What his family supposed to do with your thoughts?
Their loved one would still be here had it not been for your son’s recklessness. Go pray for him and his stupidity
Ur son grieving yet he come out the bus laughing like it was a joke eh we don’t want ur sympathy we want justice dis won’t sweep under the rug like the rest
If he did come out laughing, I think he was in shock and not even knowing. That was involuntary action.
Praying for healing for the Lightfoot family and strength for the driver’s family as well
