Missing Knife Inquiry Leads to Cannabis Discovery in Teen’s School Bag

A father’s attempt to locate a missing kitchen knife resulted in the discovery of cannabis in his son’s school bag during a search at a secondary school on Friday.

According to the Antigua Observer, the parent contacted school officials and requested that his child’s backpack be searched after a knife reportedly went missing from the family home.

While the search did not uncover the missing knife, school personnel allegedly found a quantity of cannabis concealed inside a plastic bag within the student’s backpack.

The discovery prompted school officials to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) shortly before 10 a.m. Police officers subsequently responded to the school and took possession of the suspected cannabis along with the bag.

The student, a 14-year-old boy, was later taken to CID headquarters, where he was interviewed in the presence of his mother.

According to reports, the teenager told investigators that he had left his school bag with another individual while he went to purchase sweets and was unaware that the substance was inside the bag when it was searched.

The circumstances surrounding the discovery remain under investigation as police seek to determine how the cannabis ended up in the student’s possession.

No information has been released regarding charges, and investigations are ongoing.
