Eight years after the brazen robbery at Carlisle Bay Resort that stunned the nation, Anthony “Thug Life” Govia remains on the run, with police yet to capture the man accused of masterminding the theft of more than EC$98,000 from the luxury hotel.

Police allege that Govia, who was 31 years old at the time, conspired with former Carlisle Bay Resort accounts clerk Kathy-Ann Isaac to carry out the June 30, 2018 aggravated robbery.

Despite an extensive investigation and regional alerts issued shortly after the incident, Govia has never been located. Investigators believe he may have fled Antigua in the days following the robbery, and he remains on the police wanted list.

The case initially unfolded as what appeared to be an armed robbery carried out by a lone gunman.

Surveillance footage captured two employees removing cash from the resort’s safe and placing it into bags before an armed man entered and made off with the money.

Isaac, who had worked as an accounts clerk at Carlisle Bay Resort for approximately 14 years, was one of the employees seen handling the cash. In the immediate aftermath of the robbery, she presented herself as a traumatised victim.

However, the investigation took an unexpected turn just days later.

Police uncovered evidence that allegedly linked Isaac to the planning of the robbery, identifying her as one of its key conspirators rather than an innocent victim.

She was subsequently charged with aggravated robbery and later admitted her involvement.

In February 2019, Isaac pleaded guilty before the High Court. She was sentenced on April 19, 2020, to two years and six months at Her Majesty’s Prison.

While Isaac has already served her sentence, the search for Govia continues.

Police have repeatedly appealed to the public for information that could lead to his arrest, reminding anyone who may know his whereabouts that assisting or harbouring a wanted person is a criminal offence.

Eight years later, one of Antigua and Barbuda’s most talked-about hotel robberies remains only partially resolved, with authorities still searching for the man they say has successfully evaded capture since disappearing in the aftermath of the crime.
