VIDEO: SLBMC Launches Investigation After Infant’s Death Sparks Public Concern

The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) says it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an infant after a video linked to the incident began circulating widely on social media.

In a brief statement issued Wednesday, the country’s main public hospital acknowledged the growing public attention surrounding the case but said it is unable to discuss specific clinical details while the investigation is underway.

The hospital expressed condolences to the child’s family, describing the loss as heartbreaking.

“We recognize that this is an incredibly difficult time for the child’s family, and we extend our deepest sympathies to them as they grieve this heartbreaking loss,” the statement said.

SLBMC said the ongoing investigation will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident but stressed that patient confidentiality and the integrity of the review process prevent it from commenting further at this stage.

The hospital also appealed for public understanding as it works through the matter.

“We appreciate the public’s understanding as we continue to handle this matter with the care, sensitivity, and professionalism it deserves,” the statement added.

The statement comes amid heightened public discussion after a video relating to the incident was shared across several social media platforms, prompting widespread calls for answers.

Hospital officials have not indicated when the investigation is expected to conclude or whether its findings will be made public.

The video at the centre of the public reaction features grieving mother Jessi Julian, who recounts what she says were the events leading up to the death of her infant at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. Her account reflects her personal experience and contains allegations that have not been independently verified by Antigua.news.

  4. They always a try look on people and think they can do a Diagnosis without checking out the patient…. They killed off my child in 2020 they are some wicked set of murderers up there. This is so sad am crying here cause I literally can feel her pain, I went thru a similar situation. I left it to God but I want you to sue them. Negligence is their #1 priority

  6. Shame on the hospital that we have here. My heart shattered in pieces as i watched that video. Is too many times people are dying on hospitals watch all because of neglect. I hope the minster has something to say on this matter. It’s about time some shaping up is done at the hospital.

  7. This sensitive case arrives at a highly critical time for the hospital’s leadership. Just days prior, a brand-new Board of Directors was officially sworn in at Government House to take over leadership of the SLBMC. The timing of this tragedy has put an immediate spotlight on the hospital’s new governance and everyone is waiting to see how they respond and handle it.

  8. This stands to see how people only highlight the bad. Condolences to the mother on the lost of her child. Nobody should lose their child to negligence. But how now come when the hospital does good no one makes a live about it? No news article, nothing! But as soon as something bad happens, the hospital is at blast for it. Hmm. We can commend the same way we can tear down.
