Minister of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs Michael Joseph has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening Antigua and Barbuda’s health information systems, describing reliable data as essential to improving healthcare services and shaping national policy.
The commitment came during a recent meeting with the management and staff of the Ministry’s Health Information Division, where discussions focused on enhancing the collection, analysis and reporting of health data to support more informed decision-making.
During the meeting, Minister Joseph received an overview of the Division’s operations and examined ways to improve data management processes to ensure health information is accurate, timely and readily available.
He stressed that dependable health data is critical to developing evidence-based policies and delivering quality healthcare to the population.
“Quality health information is the foundation of sound decision-making. By strengthening our systems and improving how data is collected, analyzed and shared, we can make better policy decisions that directly benefit the people of Antigua and Barbuda,” Joseph said.
The Minister also underscored the importance of making health information more accessible to the public, noting that greater transparency would allow citizens to better understand the country’s health profile and make more informed decisions about their own well-being.
Officials also discussed improving the aggregation and dissemination of health statistics to help identify emerging health trends, guide the allocation of healthcare resources and develop targeted programmes for communities with specific needs.
The Health Information Division reaffirmed its commitment to modernising its systems and working closely with stakeholders across the health sector to strengthen the country’s health information infrastructure.
The Ministry said the initiative forms part of its broader strategy to build a data-driven healthcare system that supports better policy development, improves health outcomes and enhances the overall well-being of residents across Antigua and Barbuda.
