Leyandro “Leo” Hubbard

About two weeks after 29-year-old Leyandrew Hubbard was gunned down in broad daylight in Potters, no one has been arrested or charged in connection with his killing.

Hubbard was shot and killed on Ladoo Road in Potters after a lone gunman reportedly approached a group of men who were playing cards under a roadside shed and opened fire.

Another man from Urlings was also shot during the attack and was rushed to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre in critical condition.

In the days following the killing, police indicated that one person was being questioned as investigators worked to determine who was responsible for the deadly attack.

However, weeks later, no charges have been announced and there has been no public confirmation of an arrest in connection with Hubbard’s death.

The absence of an arrest has left questions surrounding the investigation, particularly given the circumstances of the shooting, which occurred in daylight in an area where several people were reportedly gathered.

Meanwhile, Antigua.news understands that the roadside structure where Hubbard and other young men were gathered at the time of the shooting remains in place.

Emergency personnel at the scene of the shooting

Young men continue to congregate at the location, where card playing and gambling activities have resumed despite the fatal shooting that unfolded there.

Hubbard was killed at approximately 10:30 a.m. while reportedly playing cards with several other men under the roadside shed. According to the initial police investigation, a lone gunman approached the group, opened fire and fled.

Police responding to reports of gunfire found Hubbard on the southern side of Ladoo Road suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead.

The second victim suffered a gunshot wound to his back and was transported to hospital for emergency treatment.

At the time, Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers and the Police Administration extended condolences to Hubbard’s family and appealed for members of the public to assist investigators.

Police also urged the gunman to surrender.

But weeks after those appeals, Hubbard’s killing remains without any publicly announced charges.

Anyone with information that could assist investigators is encouraged to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or 462-3914 or Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
