Police Hunt Gunman After Potters Man Killed in Broad Daylight Shooting
Police have launched a manhunt for a lone gunman following a fatal shooting in Potters on Sunday morning that claimed the life of a 29-year-old man and left another fighting for his life.
The deceased has been identified as Leyandrew Hubbard of Potters.
According to police, the shooting occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Ladoo Road. Officers responded to reports of gunfire and, upon arrival, found Hubbard lying along the southern side of the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at 12:37 p.m.
Preliminary investigations suggest Hubbard was playing cards with several other men beneath a roadside shed when a lone gunman approached the group and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
A second victim, a man from Urlings, was also struck during the attack. He sustained a gunshot wound to his back and was rushed to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre by Emergency Medical Services. Police said he remains in critical condition and is expected to undergo surgery.
Investigators are now appealing to members of the public for information that could help identify and locate the suspect.
Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information relevant to the investigation is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Department at 462-3913 or 462-3914, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
The Police Administration has also issued a direct appeal to the suspect, urging him to surrender at the nearest police station without delay.
The latest killing has heightened concerns over gun violence in Antigua and Barbuda and marks another homicide for the year, as detectives continue their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deadly attack.
Commissioner of Police Everton Jeffers and the Police Administration have extended condolences to Hubbard’s family and loved ones as they mourn his tragic death.
