Police are investigating the shooting of a 29-year-old Herbert’s resident who was wounded while sitting inside a parked vehicle in Cashew Hill during the early hours of Monday morning.

According to Observer Media, the incident occurred at about 2:24 a.m. on Tonge Lane, where the man had reportedly parked his Toyota Noah motor van near the home of his former girlfriend.

The victim told investigators that while he was inside the vehicle, he noticed a shadow appear at the driver’s side window. Moments later, he heard two gunshots before seeing a masked individual flee the scene in a westerly direction.

The man sustained a gunshot wound to his right shoulder, with the bullet exiting through his chest. He was transported to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, where he received medical treatment and was kept under observation. His condition has since been reported as stable.

Police also discovered two bullet holes in the driver’s window of the Toyota Noah, indicating the shots were fired directly into the vehicle.

The suspect was described as a slimly built individual wearing dark clothing and a mask. No arrests have been made.

Investigators are continuing their inquiries and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information that could assist the investigation to contact the Criminal Investigations Department or the nearest police station.

The latest shooting adds to a string of firearm-related incidents that have kept police busy in recent weeks as detectives work to identify those responsible and determine the motive behind the attack.
