Dominica Police Signal Possible Dismissals and Terminations of Officers in Coming Days

The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force is expected to announce disciplinary action, including possible dismissals and terminations, against some officers in the coming days.

Acting Chief of Police Lincoln Corbette disclosed this during a press conference but did not identify the officers who could be affected.

It is suspected that the officers were directly connected to the Jerbiah Paul investigation.

A 23-year-old Dominican police officer has been charged with the murder of the 16-year-old whose disappearance triggered an intensive investigation and widespread public concern.

Corbette said officers must decide whether they are fully committed to serving as members of the Police Force.

“You are either a police officer, or you are not,” he said.

According to Corbette, off-duty officers who witness unlawful activity still have a responsibility to intervene appropriately or report the matter.

He said probationary officers can have their appointments terminated during their first two years if they are found to be unsuitable or display serious character deficiencies.

The chief said he would make no apologies for taking firm action to protect the integrity of the organisation.

    Unworthy police officers shouldn’t only be removed from the ranks of the police force but should also be charged and brought before the courts to be held to account for their criminal activities

    Any police officer who is convicted on a criminal charges in a court of Law, it is an automatic dismissal for that officer. So the Commissioner of police had no choice. Thats the Law from time immemorial.

    Well a small country is taking the lead. Let us see if we will follow. We still waiting for the police who killed Manie in Grays Farm to be charged with murder. That little boy Khalyl who they killed when he turned 18. Them police officers who rapped that girl at Pensioners. Listen if i we have to do resaerch and address these issue no police remaining in the force. What about those who killed Jabaz? In prison? Come on. Antigua news we want to hear about these things.
