Senior Government Vacancies to Be Publicly Advertised

Senior positions within the Government will now be publicly advertised whenever they become vacant, following a decision by Cabinet aimed at making the appointment process more open and competitive.

The new policy takes effect immediately and will apply as vacancies arise.

Cabinet said public advertising will allow a wider pool of qualified and experienced people to apply for senior public service and government positions.

The approach is also intended to strengthen confidence in the selection process by placing greater emphasis on qualifications, experience, leadership ability and merit.

The first vacancy announced under the new approach is the position of Executive Chairman of the Citizenship by Investment Unit.

Cabinet is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates capable of providing executive leadership and oversight of the CIU.

The successful candidate will be expected to ensure that the Unit operates with high standards of professionalism, accountability, integrity and regulatory compliance.

Cabinet said the policy is part of a wider package of governance reforms that also includes filing the country’s list of diplomatic appointees in Parliament.
