A man is in police custody after a quad bike stolen from a property in Herbert’s early Thursday morning was recovered near Tyrells just hours after the theft.

The green and black 2024 Yamaha Raptor 700 was found along Olney Frederick Road, where video from the scene shows the suspect being detained by police.

Sources say the man was found pulling the quad from bushes after reportedly being followed to the area.

The recovery came hours after surveillance footage captured two individuals reportedly removing the quad from a property in Herbert’s between approximately 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m.

In that footage, the two could be seen making off with the quad while dogs barked nearby.

Despite the commotion, neighbours reportedly said they did not see or hear anything unusual at the time.

The owner later turned to the public for assistance, offering a US$2,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the quad or the identification of those responsible for the theft.

By later Thursday, the quad had been recovered and one man was in police custody.

It is not yet clear whether police are searching for a second person in connection with the theft.
