More than 100 students at Seaview Farm Primary School have received a helping hand for the new academic year from one of the school’s former students, reigning Groovy Soca King Lennard “Young Lyrics” Henry.
The Antiguan soca artiste returned to his alma mater with his team, donating school supplies and other essential items to students as they settle back into the classroom.
For Young Lyrics, the visit was about more than handing over supplies. It gave him an opportunity to return to the school that played a part in his early life and encourage students to believe in themselves and continue working towards their goals.
“It means a lot to me to come back to Seaview Farm Primary School and give back to the students,” Young Lyrics said.
He told the students that having people who believe in and encourage them can make a difference, adding that he was pleased to play a small role in helping them get a positive start to the school year.
Principal Sonilda Burton welcomed the donation, saying it was especially meaningful to see a former student return to support the next generation.
Burton said the assistance would make a difference to students and their families, while also giving the children an example of someone who once sat in the same classrooms and later found success in the entertainment industry.
The visit also brought some entertainment to the school day, with Young Lyrics treating students to a special performance.
Students enthusiastically welcomed the reigning Groovy Soca King, who used the occasion to connect with them not only as a performer but as someone who once attended their school.
The initiative is part of the artiste’s effort to use his growing profile in music to make a positive contribution to his community, particularly among young people.
Young Lyrics says he intends to continue engaging young people across Antigua and Barbuda and hopes to use his influence in music and entertainment to encourage them and create opportunities as his career develops.
