Browne Meets Multibillionaire Philanthropist Alex Soros to Discuss Antigua and Barbuda’s Development Priorities
Prime Minister Gaston Browne discussed renewable energy, sustainable transport and Commonwealth priorities with Open Society Foundations leaders during UNGA81.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne met with Open Society Foundations chairman Alex Soros and president Binaifer Nowrojee on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York to discuss areas of potential cooperation with Antigua and Barbuda.
Alexander Soros born October 27, 1985is an American investor and philanthropist. One of the five children of billionaire George Sores.
The talks covered renewable energy, electric mobility and sustainable transportation, as well as wider development priorities. Browne also raised opportunities for engagement across the Caribbean and Africa on trade, regional integration, reparatory justice and economic inequality.
According to the account of the meeting, Open Society Foundations expressed a willingness to support priorities Browne intends to pursue during his two-year term as Commonwealth Chair-in-Office.
Those priorities include strengthening multilateral cooperation, expanding economic opportunities for vulnerable countries, and advancing women’s rights and youth empowerment. No funding agreement or specific project was announced.
Nowrojee is expected to visit Antigua and Barbuda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and deliver a keynote address at the Women’s Forum. Browne also invited Soros to attend, pointing to opportunities he expects to arise from the CHOGM Business Forum.
Open Society Foundations was founded by financier and philanthropist George Soros, Alex Soros’s father.
Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Walton Webson, and Second Secretary Dr. Jerri-Anne Jeremy joined Browne at the meeting.

PM Browne needs help improving our infrastructure—especially our roads and drainage, health and medical equipment, water supply and storage, city sewage system, and internet service. Yes, looking for investment is good.

There is nothing wrong with looking for international partners, but the bigger question is what happens after the meeting. Can the government give the public a clear picture of the projects being pursued, the expected benefits, the costs, and the timeframe for implementation?

Soros is a reputable individual. His father is a huge political donor to Democratic Party in the US. My major concern is the tentacles of their other involvement. I just read the whole article about Alex Saab. Antigua don’t need another one if this exposure. However , looking for investment is a honorable duty.

Investors won't give money for nothing our land and Passport will be giving in ex change. He needs to know what doors he is opening. For life is spiritual.Money passing from investors now for years and still nothing Impressive happening.we still can't see a completed proper road..We take money from China and we have to take in a lot of Chinese.
