Cabinet Backs Agricultural Jobs for Ten Young People at Nyabingi Community

Cabinet has agreed to facilitate agricultural employment for ten young people within the Nyabingi Theocracy Community at Creekside, as part of efforts to expand food production and provide practical opportunities for youth.

The decision followed discussions on Wednesday with High Priest Ambassador Bongo Selah, who appealed for additional government assistance to strengthen the Rastafarian community’s agricultural programme.

Selah told Cabinet that community members are already growing sweet potatoes and other food crops. He outlined plans to increase production while helping young people develop skills in farming, irrigation and related agricultural activities.

Cabinet welcomed the proposal but said the employment initiative must include proper supervision and mechanisms to monitor participants’ work and progress. Those selected must be meaningfully engaged in productive activities.

The discussions also addressed Selah’s interest in helping young people from outside the community through mentorship, employment and positive intervention.

While acknowledging that intention, Cabinet advised the community against actively recruiting outside participants at this stage, particularly individuals whose circumstances and conduct are not sufficiently known to its leadership.

Cabinet said the programme should initially focus on people within the community who can be effectively supervised. It expressed concern that an unstructured arrangement could undermine the agricultural initiative and the positive work already underway.

Any future involvement of young people from outside the community, Cabinet advised, should follow their successful integration and demonstrated commitment to rehabilitation and productive activity within an accountable framework.

Selah made clear that the proposed initiative would focus on food production.
Cabinet commended the community’s agricultural efforts and reaffirmed its willingness to support a programme that advances youth development, employment and national food security.
