A pending criminal case caught up with Keran Wynter as she returned to St Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday, with authorities arresting her under a bench warrant issued by the High Court.
Wynter, who is also known as Keran Millard, was taken into custody on September 30 in connection with an alleged offence of larceny by servant, according to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
She had previously been indicted before the High Court of Saint Christopher and Nevis, and the court subsequently issued a bench warrant in connection with the pending proceedings.
Wynter remains in police custody and is expected to appear before the court.
Her arrest follows efforts by authorities to locate her, with the DPP’s Office acknowledging assistance received from members of the public in both Antigua and Barbuda and St Kitts and Nevis.
In a statement Wednesday, the office said information and cooperation provided by members of the public had been of considerable assistance in locating Wynter and facilitating her return.
The DPP’s Office said the development underscored the importance of cooperation between the public, law enforcement agencies and prosecutorial authorities in ensuring that people required to answer criminal proceedings are brought before the courts in accordance with the law.
It also expressed appreciation to law enforcement personnel and other relevant authorities involved in the matter.
The case remains before the court. Wynter is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty according to law.
