The ambassador also emphasised the importance of high-level exchanges, including ministerial visits, in strengthening the bilateral relationship. He described Francis as “yet another bridge” between the two nations and expressed confidence in her ability to help deepen their ties.

Minister for Information, Communication Technologies, Utilities and Energy, Melford Nicholas, delivered remarks on behalf of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.

Having recently returned from Japan, Nicholas reflected on the range of cooperation between the countries and congratulated Francis on her appointment. He said her new role would contribute to strengthening their friendship and partnership.

Francis, a recipient of the Most Precious Order of Princely Heritage, expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in her and pledged to support the continued development of relations between Japan and Antigua and Barbuda.

Guests viewed a presentation showcasing bilateral cooperation, cultural exchanges and longstanding ties between the peoples of both countries. The evening also featured Japanese hospitality, with hors d’oeuvres and a selection of Japanese beverages.

The establishment of Japan’s first honorary consular presence in St. John’s is expected to support further exchanges and provide another link between the two countries.
