Welcome Home Antigua Introduces Faster Immigration Processing for Returning Citizens
New biometric service removes arrival forms for Antigua and Barbuda citizens, with full implementation set for October 15.
Returning citizens of Antigua and Barbuda are set to benefit from faster airport immigration processing following Thursday’s soft launch of Welcome Home Antigua, a new service using biometric technology.
The system is being introduced at V.C. Bird International Airport in Antigua and Burton–Nibbs International Airport in Barbuda, with full implementation scheduled for October 15.
Under the initiative, citizens using the service will no longer need to complete an Embarkation/Disembarkation form when entering the country. Instead, they can download the Welcome Home Antigua app on an Apple or Android device and enrol for facial recognition processing.
Once registered, passengers can be identified through a facial scan, helping to reduce the time spent completing immigration procedures.
Chief Immigration Officer Katrina Yearwood described the initiative as another step towards positioning Antigua and Barbuda as a regional leader in modern immigration services.
She said the country was “leading in that domain” and expressed confidence that the service, like Arrive Antigua before it, would encourage other Caribbean nations to adopt similar measures.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration E.P. Chet Greene and Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Henry Charles Fernandez were the first to use the system upon returning from diplomatic engagements.
Greene welcomed the development, saying Antigua and Barbuda was “leveling up” by introducing a service specifically dedicated to its citizens.
Fernandez said he was proud to see Antiguans and Barbudans “once again put first,” while emphasising that technology must be supported by strong customer service.
He stressed that staff across airport and tourism operations remain central to delivering a positive passenger experience, even as the use of artificial intelligence and other technologies expands.
The initiative is expected to shorten processing times for returning nationals and help improve the overall flow of passengers through immigration, benefiting visitors as well.

Technology can definitely make things easier, but the customer service still has to match it. Nobody wants fancy systems with the same old long waits and confusion. Hope this works as promised

Progress is progress. If the facial scan can cut down the paperwork and move the lines faster, returning nationals should appreciate that. Now we have to see how smoothly it works when everybody starts using it.
