Clayton Jeffery of Bolans was sentenced on Friday after previously pleading guilty to wounding with intent in connection with the October 29, 2023 incident.
The court heard that Jeffery's sister was walking towards her mother's home in Bolans when she spotted her brother running towards her carrying a kettle filled with scalding water and shouting a threat.
She attempted to run away, but Jeffery caught up with her and poured the boiling water over her back.
The woman screamed and collapsed in the street, but the assault did not end there. Jeffery began kicking and punching her as she lay injured before bystanders intervened and brought the attack to an end.
She was taken to hospital, where doctors treated her for third-degree burns to her back, a broken bone in her left leg and another broken bone in her right hand.
Her injuries required her to remain in hospital for three weeks. After being discharged, she was reportedly confined to bed for approximately eight months while recovering.
The court heard there had been no argument between the siblings immediately before the attack.
Police said Jeffery later explained that he had become angry because he believed his sister had been speaking about him to neighbours.
According to his account, he overheard neighbours repeating a rumour on the day of the incident and, after seeing his sister along the road, rushed towards her with the hot liquid.
Jeffery pleaded guilty to wounding with intent on June 22. He appeared emotional in court at the time, wiping away tears as he entered his plea.
He has now been sentenced to four years' imprisonment.
