More than four years after an armed robbery at a Falmouth supermarket ended with the gunman being shot and later discovered wounded inside an abandoned house, Tristan Armstrong has been sentenced to 21 years in prison.

Armstrong, 34, was sentenced in the High Court on Friday after being convicted of aggravated robbery and possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The case stemmed from an incident at Bailey’s Supermarket in October 2021.

The court heard that Armstrong confronted the supermarket owner as he arrived for work and pointed a firearm at him during the robbery.

The encounter took a dramatic turn when the owner managed to get hold of a weapon and opened fire at Armstrong.

Police subsequently found Armstrong inside an abandoned house in Piccadilly suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The case eventually proceeded to trial in the High Court, where Armstrong was tried by a judge without a jury.

He was found guilty in July.

Armstrong returned to court on Friday for sentencing and was handed a 21-year prison term.

The maximum sentence for the offence is 35 years.
