A Monday morning drive ended in tragedy after 44-year-old Longfords resident Shomari Ajamu Charles lost his life when the SUV he was driving ran off a by-road at Dry Hill and overturned.
Police said officers were called to the scene at approximately 11:50 a.m. on Monday, October 5, in the vicinity of the late Asot Michael’s residence.
Investigators said Charles was reportedly travelling from south to north in a Hyundai Tucson when he apparently lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV ran off the eastern side of the roadway, broke through a wire fence and overturned onto its roof.
Charles was found unresponsive at the scene before Emergency Medical Services personnel transported him to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.
He was pronounced dead at approximately 12:33 p.m.
Police have not indicated what may have caused Charles to lose control of the vehicle, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash are continuing.
The Police Administration extended condolences to Charles’ family, relatives and friends as they mourn his death.
The tragedy has also prompted another appeal from police for motorists to exercise caution on the nation’s roads, observe speed limits and drive with due care and attention.
