Banks Urged to Lend More for Domestic Development
Prime Minister says conservative lending practices are limiting the sector’s contribution to economic activity.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has urged banks to play a greater role in financing domestic economic development, saying their lending practices remain too conservative.
Speaking on the Browne and Browne Show, Browne criticised what he described as a preference for placing funds overseas and earning returns from securities rather than lending more locally.
He said banks should be less risk-averse and act as stronger catalysts for growth.
The Prime Minister contrasted his concerns about commercial lending with what he described as regular applications to the government’s entrepreneurial financing programme.
Browne said he was encouraged by increasing interest in starting businesses and wanted financial institutions to contribute more actively to that activity.
He did not identify particular banks or present lending figures during the programme, and no new regulatory measure was announced.

You all should use a pic of ECAB. They are the ones making it hard to lend people money. They want to know all who buy you food and if you have a husband and boyfriend. Not me and them banks but i agree with the PEEEHM.

First off, when I see that bank I get the cringe because alot of theft is happening with persons accounts there from online purchases and the banks has stopped answering calls and emails. When u go to them they take ur card n tell u send email report but nothing is done. I've lost hundreds of dollars by someone shopping on shein n no one can give me answers up to now...and im one of many many account holders. That's what I want resolved. Until then, me nuh want non loan
