UWI Law Classes Expected to Return to Campus Next Semester
Browne says temporary accommodation was arranged to keep students in the programme while space is prepared.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne says the University of the West Indies Five Islands law programme is expected to return to the campus next semester.
On the Browne and Browne Show, Browne said temporary accommodation had been arranged because the university lacked sufficient space for the students.
He said the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party had stepped in to assist while the necessary adjustments were made to university facilities.
Browne rejected suggestions that the arrangement was intended to generate income for the party or turn the programme into a political issue.
He said the objective was to ensure students could continue their studies rather than leave the programme because of accommodation difficulties.
The Prime Minister did not provide a detailed timetable for the retrofitting work, but indicated that the temporary arrangement was intended to bridge the gap until classes could be accommodated at UWI.
