Four Teenage Boys Still on the Run After Escape from Bolans Police Station
The juveniles were being held in police custody while repairs were carried out at the Denis Bowers Rehabilitation Centre.
Four teenage boys who escaped from police custody at the Bolans Police Station on Monday night remain on the run.
The juveniles, aged between 15 and 17, had been transferred from the Denis Bowers Rehabilitation Centre after allegedly damaging their cell, leaving it unsuitable to hold them while repairs were undertaken.
Centre manager Randy Christopher said he learned of the escape on Tuesday morning, October 6, after being contacted by a senior police officer.
The events leading to their transfer reportedly began shortly after midnight on Saturday at the rehabilitation facility in Willikies, where the boys allegedly damaged the hinges of their cell door and CCTV cameras.
The noise alerted detention officers, after which the teenagers reportedly barricaded themselves inside the cell.
Officers from the police Special Services Unit, supported by two members of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, responded and took the four into custody without further incident.
The boys were reportedly taken first to the St. John’s Police Station and later transferred to Bolans, where they were being held pending repairs at the centre.
The circumstances surrounding their escape remain unclear.
Christopher has cautioned members of the public against attempting to apprehend the teenagers.
“I would not say they are more dangerous, but based on some of the offences that they would have been remanded for, I would want to caution the public not to try to apprehend [them], but contact the authorities,” he said.
Anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to contact the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda or the Denis Bowers Rehabilitation Centre at 463-2029.
