Senator Colin O’Neal has added another significant achievement to his public service career, graduating on Saturday, October 10, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus (UWIFIC).

The senator marked the milestone surrounded by his family, while expressing appreciation to the Government of Antigua and Barbuda for its investment in tertiary education and the opportunities now available for citizens to pursue university degrees without leaving their homeland.

O’Neal praised the government's commitment to expanding access to higher education, noting the importance of having a fully established University of the West Indies campus in Antigua and Barbuda.

His achievement highlights the opportunities created through the development of the Five Islands Campus, which has made university education more accessible to working professionals, public servants and other citizens seeking to advance their academic qualifications while remaining in Antigua and Barbuda.

For O’Neal, the occasion was also a proud family celebration.

He was accompanied by his wife, Lady Follet Browne, and his two sons, Jevon Browne and Kofi Browne, who joined him in celebrating the academic milestone.

Jevon is an electrical technician, while his younger brother, Kofi, is pursuing a medical degree at the American University of Antigua (AUA).

But even as he celebrates earning his Political Science degree, Senator O’Neil is already preparing for his next academic challenge.

He disclosed that he intends to enrol in the newly introduced Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme at the UWI Five Islands Campus early next year.

The programme, which welcomed its first cohort of students in September 2026, represents another major step in expanding the range of professional qualifications available locally.

O’Neal's decision to pursue legal studies demonstrates his determination to continue developing academically while serving in public life.

His latest accomplishment also reinforces the message that education is a lifelong pursuit and that age, professional responsibilities and public office need not stand in the way of academic advancement.

The senator's graduation comes as the UWI Five Islands Campus continues to strengthen its position as an important institution for higher education in Antigua and Barbuda and the wider Eastern Caribbean.

For O’Neil, Saturday's graduation was not simply the conclusion of one academic journey, but the beginning of another, as he prepares to exchange his Political Science studies for the study of law in 2027.
