Browne Celebrates Sister’s Graduation: ‘She Has Corrected That Now’
Prime minister says Blondell Browne’s achievement reflects the opportunities now available to adults who once ended their education at secondary school.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has spoken of his pride in his sister Blondell Browne’s graduation, describing the achievement as a significant milestone for someone who shared his difficult childhood.
Browne said he was moved to see his sister collect her certificate during the graduation ceremony.
“I was extremely proud to see her collecting her certificate today,” he said.
He recalled the conditions in which they grew up and said her achievement demonstrated that educational progress remained possible later in life.
According to Browne, his sister had previously been the sibling whose education had not extended beyond secondary school.
“She has corrected that now,” he said.
The prime minister described her as a determined person and said he was happy she had reached the milestone.
He used the occasion to encourage other adults with academic ability to consider pursuing degrees.
“When I look at my sister, Blondell, for example, and many more people, they have the ability to get a degree. They just didn’t have the opportunity,” he said.
Browne also congratulated Senator Colin O’Neal and other graduates during the broadcast.
His remarks connected his family’s experience with his wider call for residents to take advantage of university education at home.
