UWI Honours Late Student Rolanda Benjamin Grant With Posthumous Award
Her husband attended the Five Islands ceremony as the university recognises her work towards a master’s degree.
The University of the West Indies has honoured the late Rolanda Benjamin Grant with a posthumous award recognising the significant work she completed towards a Master of Science in Management Studies.
The tribute formed part of the 2026 morning graduation ceremony at the Five Islands Campus in Antigua and Barbuda.
Benjamin Grant, who died in March, was a Global Campus student attached to the university’s Jamaica site. She had made her home in Antigua and Barbuda with her husband, Lesroy Grant.
Grant attended the ceremony, where the university acknowledged his presence and paid tribute to his wife’s commitment to her studies and community.
“This award is a tribute to her achievements and to the examples she leaves behind,” the university stated during the presentation.
Her name was formally read into the record for the posthumous award, followed by an invitation to the audience to acknowledge her memory and achievements with applause.
The tribute recognised her dedication and perseverance while also bringing her academic efforts before the wider university community.
It took place during the presentation of postgraduate awards, as other students were recognised for achievements in business, finance and management-related programmes.
The morning ceremony brought together graduates from Five Islands and other UWI campuses, alongside relatives, university officials and national dignitaries.
For Benjamin Grant’s family, the university’s recognition preserved a place for her achievements within that celebration.
