Eight Caribbean nations are represented in Beijing, China, as regional delegates participate in an international media training programme aimed at deepening diplomatic and cultural ties between China and the Caribbean.

Participants from Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Suriname, Grenada, Jamaica and The Bahamas are attending the Training Program for Self-Media Opinion Leaders from Caribbean Countries, which runs from October 10 to 24.

Organised by the China Public Diplomacy Association, the two-week initiative provides participants with firsthand exposure to China’s culture, heritage, technological advancements and modernisation efforts.

As part of the programme, the delegates have visited different parts of China, gaining insight into the country’s diverse communities, landmarks and development. They have also engaged with aspects of Chinese ancient history, including the traditions, heritage and historical achievements that have shaped the country’s civilisation.

According to organisers, the programme seeks to strengthen people-to-people connections through interactions with individuals from different backgrounds and discussions on China–Caribbean relations.

Conducted in English, the training also explores five programmes designed to advance cooperation between China and Latin America and the Caribbean.

Participants also have opportunities to exchange perspectives, explore China’s development and build connections with fellow Caribbean delegates while experiencing the country’s historical and cultural heritage.

The gathering highlights the Caribbean’s continued participation in international initiatives, providing a platform for regional voices while encouraging greater understanding and cooperation between China and CARICOM member states.
