Cabinet Renews Invitation to Barbuda Council for Development Talks
An October 10 letter proposes discussions on pressing development issues and renewed cooperation between the government and the council.
The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has renewed an invitation to the Barbuda Council to discuss development issues affecting the island and strengthen cooperation between the two bodies.
In a letter dated October 10, Secretary to the Cabinet Konata Lee proposed that the council meet with Cabinet as early as Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
The correspondence, addressed to the council’s Secretary/CEO, Ms. O. Shari Cannegieter, follows previous efforts to arrange discussions.
“Further to our previous correspondences, I am writing on behalf of the Cabinet to re-extend our cordial invitation to meet with the Barbuda Council,” Lee wrote.
The letter links the proposed talks to a decision taken in 2024 to re-establish a formal framework for collaboration and engagement between the central government and the council through the Joint Consultative Committee.
It also identifies development concerns as a key focus of the proposed meeting.
“The meeting will serve as a platform to discuss pressing developmental issues on Barbuda,” the letter stated.
The correspondence does not specify the individual projects or matters Cabinet intends to raise.
Lee asked the council to confirm its availability for October 14 or suggest another date that would better accommodate its schedule.
“We look forward to your positive response and to a productive meeting,” he wrote.
The letter establishes that an invitation was extended but does not confirm whether the council accepted or whether the proposed meeting took place.
