APUA Targets Weekend Exit from St John’s Streets to Clear Way for Road Repairs
Utility teams are completing final connections and reinstatement work before the Ministry of Works intensifies resurfacing.
APUA has told Cabinet it expects to withdraw its construction teams from affected streets in St John’s by the end of the weekend, allowing the Ministry of Works to accelerate road repairs ahead of CHOGM.
The update was presented during Cabinet’s October 14 meeting, with utility officials reporting that the installation of new water distribution lines had been completed.
Remaining work includes final service connections, the installation of valve-box covers and the reinstatement of pavement disturbed during construction.
APUA reported that 19 valve-box covers were being installed, with completion targeted for Saturday, October 17. Outstanding pavement reinstatement was expected to be completed by Friday, October 16.
Cabinet was advised that the Ministry of Works was prepared to advance road restoration once the remaining utility installations and connections were finished.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne called for urgency, particularly on High Street, where Cabinet instructed that outstanding utility work receive priority to facilitate immediate road repairs.
The Ministry of Works was also encouraged to proceed in areas where installations were already complete and the necessary clearances had been provided.
The deadlines remain targets outlined in the Cabinet report, with the Government continuing to monitor progress before the November 1–4 summit.
