A major CHOGM cultural production scheduled for November 2 could bring Tarrus Riley, international classical musicians and leading Antiguan performers together at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.

Cabinet received a presentation on the proposed “One Commonwealth Night” programme during its October 14 meeting, with organisers outlining a three-hour production combining music, storytelling, youth participation and leadership.

British actor and musician Idris Elba was identified as a proposed host alongside Senator Jamilla Kirwan. His participation remains subject to confirmation.

The event is scheduled to run from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. under the theme “Many Voices. One Commonwealth.”

Artists named in the presentation included Jamaican reggae singer Tarrus Riley, Grammy-winning vocalist Falguni Shah, known as Falu, Ghanaian musician Rocky Dawuni, the Kanneh-Mason family and Jamaican-Canadian reggae performer Jah’Mila.

The proposed local programme includes Claudette “CP” Peters, Asher Otto and Arlen Seaton.

Cabinet noted that the final programme and the participation of some international personalities were still being confirmed.

A central role is planned for the Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra, with the orchestra and choir expected to accompany several performances.

Conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser is expected to lead the youth orchestra during the production.

Organisers outlined a three-stage arrangement covering orchestral music, storytelling and leadership, and cultural performances. The stages would operate as a continuous production.

Four chapters are planned: “Our Commonwealth,” “Voices That Inspire,” “The Future We Create,” and “Prosperity, Together.”

The opening segment is expected to celebrate Antigua and Barbuda as host nation and include a welcome from Prime Minister Gaston Browne.

Other proposed contributions include appearances by Commonwealth Poet Laureate Professor Selina Tusitala Marsh and Commonwealth Young Person of the Year Shifra Ainomugisha.

A “Digital Futures for Youth” segment would focus on technology, entrepreneurship and economic opportunities, with Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey expected to participate.

The programme also proposes a contribution from Scotland’s National Piping Centre and a finale bringing artists, orchestra, choir and audience together for Bob Marley’s “One Love.”

Cabinet welcomed the emphasis on local talent and international collaboration, describing the event as an opportunity to showcase Antigua and Barbuda’s creative industries during the Commonwealth gathering.
