80 Yachts Set for Antigua as Salty Dogs Rally Returns in November
Most participating vessels are expected to make Antigua their winter base, creating opportunities for businesses across the yachting sector.
Antigua is preparing to welcome approximately 80 yachts when the Salty Dogs Rally returns in November, with most participating vessels expected to remain based on the island for the winter.
The fleet is scheduled to arrive between November 10 and 15.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Michael Freeland, said the sailors’ return following last year’s visit presents another opportunity to strengthen Antigua and Barbuda’s relationship with the sailing community.
An extended stay by the vessels could generate business for marinas, marine technicians, provisioning companies, restaurants and other local service providers throughout the winter season.
Ahead of the arrivals, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority has provided welcome packages featuring local products and practical information to help participants prepare for their time on the island.
English Harbour Rum sponsored rum miniatures for the packages, which also include hot sauce, caps and marine guides containing information about Antigua.
Devin Joseph, the Tourism Authority’s Yachting Business Development Manager, made the presentation on behalf of the authority.
The initiative gives participating sailors an introduction to local products while highlighting the facilities and services available during their stay.
For tourism officials, the rally’s return offers an opportunity to encourage repeat visits and strengthen Antigua’s appeal as a winter base for yacht owners and crews.
