Kyjah Grayman Named Overall Reader at St. Philip South Reading Competition
Ten children showcased their reading skills at Freetown Primary School in an initiative promoting literacy, confidence and parental involvement.
Kyjah Grayman emerged as the Overall Reader at the St. Philip South Reading Competition on Saturday, October 17, as ten young participants from communities across the constituency demonstrated their reading abilities.
Held at Freetown Primary School, the competition featured three age categories, with parents and supporters filling the room to encourage the children.

Z’ Mar Massicot won the ages six to eight category, while Grayman secured the nine to eleven title before also receiving the overall honour. Jahrell Joseph topped the twelve to fourteen category.
The event forms part of Hon. Kiz Johnson’s ongoing efforts to support young people in her constituency through education, while encouraging them to develop confidence in their abilities.

Johnson said the competition was also intended to strengthen the relationship between parents and children through preparation and encouragement.
“This initiative was also designed to bring parents closer to their children as they helped them to practise and encouraged them to be their best for this competition,” she said.

“It was also about helping the children to overcome their fears and build resilience.”
Beyond the prizes, the competition gave participants an opportunity to read before an audience, face the challenges of public performance and celebrate their progress with family and community members.
